Hello, my name is Milena Banic, and I am a PhD researcher at the University of Stirling. I am recruiting volunteers for an omega-3 supplementation study where we will investigate blood, muscle, and fat tissue in response to 12 weeks of omega-3 supplementation followed by 8 weeks of washout.
What do you have to do if you take part in the study?
We will ask you to visit our laboratory 9 times over the course of 5 months and to take fish oil supplementation daily for the first 3 months. We will collect blood, muscle, and fat tissue at 4 different time-points during the study; at the start, and then after 4 weeks, 12 weeks and 20 weeks. There will be additional visits at 6, 8, 14 and 16 weeks where we take a blood sample. All visits will be held in the morning after an overnight fast of 10 hours.
Key points:
- You receive information about your omega-3 status & your body composition and bone mineral density through DEXA.
- Total time commitment is around 30 hours, total time in the lab will be ~12hrs. The remaining 18 hours will be time allocated to travel to and from the University and completion of a food diary/activity logs.
- Upon completion of the study, you will receive a £200 reimbursement for your time.
